Summer Activist Training (SAT) Internships
Calling All Energetic and Motivated High School Students to Work for Peace!
For the past several years Michigan Peaceworks has had high school summer interns to teach them leadership and activist skills. This summer Michigan
Peaceworks is working to create a more formal youth internship program.
We are looking for energetic youth who are interested in creating
change in their communities and world. High school students would be
working in the following areas of the
Youth Activist Network:
- Peace Players- creating skits and
performing at local events. - PeaceCast Productions- creating movies of
Peaceworks events and other videos of students own interest. - Armistice-
a youth written Zine that gives youth a voice in their communities.
Students w ill also be able to work on individual projects on
issues they are passionate about through different organizing strategies learned
through the internship. They will also work on outreach and activities for
community events including the Ann Arbor Art Fair, Ypsilanti Heritage Festival,
July 4th Parade, and ABC Brewing Peace. Students will also be able
learn skills from others in the community through various workshops. One of the
most important projects of the summer will be to design and advertise for the
fall Youth Peace Summit where students will lead and teach other students
activism skills.
Students can work full-time (30hrs/wk) or part-time
(10-15hrs/wk), but have a very flexible schedule. Students will be able to pick
days of the week to work based on what part of the Youth Activist Network they
are interested in working on. A stipend of a couple hundred dollars for the
summer will be available but the amount is still yet to be determined. If you
are interested please e-mail Lauren at lholaly@umich.edu for an
application. Applications are due Friday, May 23rd. (If you have not submitted
an application by this date and are still interested please contact
Lauren.)
